Step 1: Prepare the Dough
In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until the butter has melted. Add a pinch of salt and sugar to the milk to sweeten it slightly.
Once the milk and butter mixture has melted, add the flour to the saucepan and stir well. Cook the dough for about 2-3 minutes until it becomes smooth and no longer sticks to the pan.
Once the dough has cooled, add the eggs and stir well. Repeat for each egg until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
Add the yeast or baking powder to the dough and continue stirring until the dough becomes uniform.
Step 2: Fry the Dough
Heat the oil in a deep pan, making sure there is enough oil to cover the dough. You can test the temperature of the oil by dropping a small amount of dough into the pan – if it floats and cooks immediately, the oil is hot enough.
Using a spoon or piping bag, scoop portions of the batter into the hot oil. Fry each piece for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
When the cake is done, remove it and drain on paper towels.
