French Onion Soup Recipe

🧾 Ingredients (serves 4):
800 g onions (yellow or white), thinly sliced

2 tbsp butter

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp sugar

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

150 ml dry white wine (optional)

1 liter beef or vegetable broth

1 bay leaf

1 sprig of thyme or ½ tsp dried thyme

Salt and black pepper

For the gratin slices (classic):

1 baguette, sliced

150 g grated Gruyère or Emmental (or a blend)
