Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Cook the Noodles

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Cook the noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

2. Prepare the Sauce

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat.
  2. If using meat, add it to the skillet and cook until browned and fully cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion for 3–4 minutes until softened.

3. Build the Sauce

  1. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried basil, oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper.
  2. Optional: Add sliced mushrooms, diced bell peppers, or zucchini for extra veggies. Cook for 5–7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  3. If using heavy cream, stir it in during the last 2 minutes of cooking for a creamy texture.

4. Combine Everything

  1. Return the cooked meat (if using) to the skillet and stir to combine with the sauce.
  2. Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss to coat them evenly in the sauce. Cook for 2–3 minutes to heat through.
  3. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and incorporated.

5. Serve and Enjoy

  1. Divide the noodles into bowls and garnish with additional Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
