1. Cook the Noodles
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Cook the noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. Prepare the Sauce
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat.
- If using meat, add it to the skillet and cook until browned and fully cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
3. Build the Sauce
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried basil, oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper.
- Optional: Add sliced mushrooms, diced bell peppers, or zucchini for extra veggies. Cook for 5–7 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
- If using heavy cream, stir it in during the last 2 minutes of cooking for a creamy texture.
4. Combine Everything
- Return the cooked meat (if using) to the skillet and stir to combine with the sauce.
- Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss to coat them evenly in the sauce. Cook for 2–3 minutes to heat through.
- Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and incorporated.
5. Serve and Enjoy
- Divide the noodles into bowls and garnish with additional Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
