Recipe for stuffed peppers, just like Grandma used to make!

Optional: Cream or sour cream for a milder sauce

Preparation:
1. Prepare the peppers:

Wash the peppers and cut off the tops. (Don’t throw it away!), remove the seeds and white pith.

Set the lid aside – they’ll go into the pot later!

2. Prepare the filling:

Combine the ground meat with the onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, mustard, salt, pepper, and paprika.

Knead thoroughly until a smooth mixture forms.

Fill the peppers into the pan and press down lightly.

3. Make the sauce:

In a large pot or roasting pan, sauté the onions in a little oil until translucent.

Briefly fry the tomato paste.

Deglaze with the chopped tomatoes and stock.

Add sugar and season with salt and pepper.

For a creamier or milder texture, stir in a splash of cream or a spoonful of sour cream.

4. Cook the peppers:

Place the stuffed peppers in the sauce (with or without the lid, depending on your taste).

Cover the pot and simmer over low to medium heat for about 45–60 minutes.

Add a little more stock occasionally, if needed.

🍽️ Side dish tip:

Serve with boiled potatoes, rice, or simply a piece of fresh farmhouse bread—perfect for dipping into the sauce.
