Slow Cooker Southern Green Beans

Prep bacon and veggies:

Cook chopped bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp.

Remove bacon and drain on paper towels.

Optional: Sauté onions in the bacon grease until softened for extra flavor.

Layer in slow cooker:

Add trimmed green beans, sautéed onions, and cooked bacon (or smoked meat).

Sprinkle in garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and red pepper flakes.

Pour chicken broth over everything until just covered.

Cook:

Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until green beans are very tender and flavorful.

Finish:

Taste and adjust salt or seasoning as needed.

Optional: Crumble more cooked bacon on top before serving.

🔄 Variations:
Add diced potatoes for a heartier side.

Smoked turkey wings or necks instead of bacon for a pork-free version.

Add a splash of apple cider vinegar or a pinch of sugar at the end for balance.
